Dr. Mackie lives in Vienna with her husband, two children, and her rescue puppy. In her free time, she enjoys volunteering, reading, listening to music, singing, and traveling. She is an avid musical theatre fan and hopes to return to performing in local community productions.

Barbara M. Mackie, MD has practiced allergy since 2001. Dr. Mackie is a graduate of Bryn Mawr College and Georgetown University School of Medicine and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, where she received her Masters of Science. Dr. Mackie completed her residency in Family Medicine at VCU/Medical College of Virginia’s Fairfax campus. Her particular areas of interest include asthma and allergies in pregnancy, patient education, non-pharmaceutical treatment of allergies, and food allergies. She is an adjunct clinical professor at Georgetown University School of Medicine and Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia and enjoys teaching medical students and residents who periodically rotate through her office and to whom she gives medical lectures and presentations.

Dr. Mackie treats patients of all ages. She is an effective communicator and a skilled, compassionate clinician with over twenty years of experience practicing medicine. She feels privileged to care for her patients, many of whom refer their family members, friends, neighbors and colleagues to her.

Dr. Mackie is the recipient of many awards and honors including being named a Top Doctor in “Washingtonian” and “Northern Virginia Magazine” for many years, as well as receiving endorsements in “Washington Consumer Checkbook.” She is the recipient of the Parke-Davis Excellence in Teaching Award for teaching medical students and residents. Dr. Mackie has been recognized for her community service work for the Town of Vienna, the James Madison High School Band program, and Vienna-area schools/PTA’s.
